The Lee Town Board held a Special Meeting in the Lee Town Hall to appoint the position of Town Justice for the year 2013, as Judge Joseph Goetz has resigned.

 

Present were:  Supervisor John Urtz, Councilmen Alan Trombley, Patrick Hetherington and Karl Matt.

 

Also present:  Joseph Goetz

 

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM.

 

The meeting opened with the pledge of allegiance.

 

Councilman Patrick Hetherington began by thanking Joe Goetz and for his service to the community.

 

Supervisor Urtz also commented that Mr. Goetz served as a councilman in the past.

 

Mr. Goetz thanks the residents of the Town of Lee.

 

The Board members met prior to the Special Meeting to review the applicants. 

 

Councilman Alan Trombley stated that all six applicants were outstanding and places his nomination for Sharon Merrill of Slone Rd., this was seconded by Karl Matt and CARRIED.

Roll Call:  Karl Matt - Aye          Alan Trombley - Aye        John Urtz - Aye

                        Kevin Gallagher - Nay              Pat Hetherington - Nay

Councilman Hetherington continued by stating that Mrs. Merrill could not "take the bench" until on or about the 3rd week of April, as she must take and pass the course.  Mr. Hetherington questions the payment to Mrs. Merrill prior to her being able to take the bench. 

 

It was decided to ask Justice Clark O. Newton from the Town of Annsville, who is currently filling in for Judge Goetz, to continue during the interim.  Supervisor Urtz will request re-appointment of Judge Newton from Judge Tormey at a salary of $423 per session, until Mrs. Merrill is able to take the bench.

             

A motion was made by Kevin Gallagher, seconded by Karl Matt and CARRIED to adjourn.

The Special Meeting was adjourned at 6:07 PM.
