The Lee Town Board met for a Special Meeting at 1:00 PM to celebrate the anniversary of the Town's first board meeting which was held on March 3rd, 1812.
Present were: Supervisor John Urtz, Councilmen Kevin Gallagher, Alan Trombley, Patrick Hetherington and Karl Matt.
Additionally, there were approximately 100 Town residents who attended to enjoy the celebration.
Anniversary calendars and the LeeOpoly board games were for sale in the foyer; additionally the post office was here with the Town commemorative stamp and the Town offered complimentary postcards.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Supervisor Urtz thanked all of the volunteers for their hard work.
The Proclamation of the Town of Lee was read proclaiming Saturday, March 3rd 2012 as "Town of Lee Day".
Town Historian Virginia Ackerman spoke of some of the positions held in the Town, such as "overseers of the poor" and "fence masters".
Councilman Alan Trombley spoke of some of the history from the early 1800's including economic hardships and political milestones.
Supervisor John Urtz read some of the minutes from the historical era which noted laws such as "swine cannot run at large unless well yoked" and "cattle, horses and hogs cannot run at large from Dec. 1 - April 1".
Senator Joseph Griffo was in attendance and spoke briefly about the Town of Lee.
The meeting concluded with singing "Happy Birthday" to the Town of Lee.
A motion was made by Alan Trombley, seconded by Karl Matt and CARRIED to close the special anniversary kickoff meeting. Meeting adjourned at 1:30 PM and cake was served!
